The French Department is delighted to welcome Anouck Commenge , our new Assistante de Francais, to Mount Temple. Anouck comes to us from Toulouse in France and will be with us until the end of the year. Over the last 4 weeks she has been working with small groups of 6th year pupils, helping them to prepare for their oral exam in April, as well as assisting teachers in the classroom. She also helped to prepare the Debating team for their first round debate in the Alliance Francaise competition. We hope she enjoys her year with us in Mount Temple.

Following two consecutive wins in the Joutes Oratoires Interscolaires, organised by the Alliance Francaise, Mount Temple has once again entered a team for the 2010/2011 season. The team members are Sarah Hashish (Capt.), Shelley Carlyle, Esmay Murray and Michael Buggle. The first round took place on Oct.1 and the motion was that “l’annee scolaire est trop longue” Despite a very spirited debate, the team was narrowly defeated by Gonzaga College but has been allowed to progress to the second round because of it’s strong performance. Shelley Carlyle won a Best Speaker award. The second round will take place in November when the team hopes to see an equally devoted group of supporters as last time. Many thanks to our French Assistante Anouck for all her help.

Mount Temple Boys hockey is the strongest it has been in years. With four different age groups being represented by seven teams, we are moving from strength to strength every year. Mount Temple had its best results in years last year as we reached two semi finals and two quarter finals in the boys hockey cups. First year boys won their league and Minor B boys finished runners up. We fully intend to improve on last year in the year to come.
Training are held for each team at least once a week and matches are usually on Wednesdays.
Each team competes in their own league and every age group has a team in the top league. This consists of two pools where the top two play each other in the A semi finals and the third and fourth placed teams play each other in the B semi finals. Also there is a cup for each group where we hope to do well again this year. Boys hockey will only improve with the support of it’s players, coaches and parents. We hope to keep numbers up and keep us challenging at the current high level we are at. Hopefully more success will follow these improvements. Good luck to all teams in the year to come.
