Compass Annual General Meeting – 7th May, 2016 in Wesley College, Dublin

All Parents from Compass Schools are invited to Wesley College on Saturday 7th May, 2016

Starting at 10.30 am sharp – coffee will be available from 10am.

‘BASE Jumping – Mentoring on the Edge’  – Rev. Nigel Mackey

Reassuring parents and helping to equip them to deal with challenging behaviours and to encourage them in addressing the many issues affecting their young people in school and at home.

We are delighted that Nigel Mackey, the Wesley College Chaplain has once again agreed to come and speak to Compass Parents, to share his vast experience of mentoring teenagers in the face of a rapidly changing world.

As this is also our AGM we ask each school to have their Compass Representative give a 3 minute update from their PTA on what’s been happening at their school in the past year.

The Compass Executive Committee strives to develop and promote the work we do, but we need the help and support of the PTA’s in all our schools. To assist us in our work we need a good flow of information to and from Compass and our schools.

Compass is the parent body representing our schools at national level with Government Departments and all the other Education Stakeholders, so it is vital that each of our schools takes the opportunity to appoint two parents

as your Compass representatives to ensure your schools voice is heard.

We want to welcome as many parents as possible to engage with Compass so please spread the word to the parents at your school so that they can have input and feedback on what’s happening in the Post Primary education which serves their children.

So get involved – bring this message back to your PTA – new ideas are always welcome

We hope that as many parents as possible from Compass affiliated schools can attend and we look forward to seeing you at Wesley College. School lunch will be available free of charge at 1.30pm (Please contact the Secretary on to advise how many will attend from your school and if they wish to stay for lunch.

We extend our thanks to the Principal Mr Chris Woods for facilitating the A.G.M.

The next meeting of the Learning Parent Support Group will take place on Wednesday April 13th at 7:45pm in the Library.  The meeting will cover Assistive Technology and other matters and will be presented by:

James Northridge Bio:

James experiences the challenges that come with a specific learning difficulty on a daily basis and knows its impact on education and life all too well. Having struggled during school and dropping out from University, he turned his career around when a second shot of college came his way. He grabbed it with both hands and never looked back! He tacked the Dragon’s on RTE’s and ended up winning investment for his business UrAbility, which supply’s assistive technology training and software to schools and businesses around Ireland and the UK.

Topics to include:

Succeeding with Assistive Technology

Technology is all around us, however are we using it in the right way? Is it being used effectively to ensure that learners that most need help are getting the support they need to succeed in the classroom? James will draw on both his personal, work and academic experiences to enlighten the group as to how we can use technology to empower all students. Parents will walk away from the session with practical solutions to current issues and insights on how best to use some common technology for their children.

James will review software that can be used both in the classroom and at home to aid struggling learners, showing how to use them and of course when they are best used. James will give his personal success story on what worked best for him in education and some techniques that should make life a bit easier for your children.  He might even give a few tips on dealing with investors from his successful appearance on Dragon’s Den.
