1st year team recap

This year has been such a fun year for us. For a team that is made up of mostly beginners we were very successful, we won all but 2 of our games. All of us have put in loads of effort at training and in matches, but we wouldn’t have had the opportunity to do that if it wasn’t for Coach Praha. Coach Praha has been really supportive of us, helping each of us with our individual weaknesses and always working on our strong points as well. So thanks so much for that Praha. The girls improved so much since September, without the commitment from all the girls coming to training every week, and to all the matches, we wouldn’t have had such a successful team. Thanks to Natasha Moore for the recap.

2nd year Girls recap

Everybody worked really hard at training all year around and we also got closer as a team this year. Last year our team got to the All Irelands, however this year we unfortunately lost two matches in extra time and narrowly missed out on the final. However we enjoyed every match that we played, win or lose. On behalf of the team we would like to thank Praha for all the hard work that he put into our team and helping us improve. We can’t wait to come back next year and hope to continue to improve. Thank you to Praha and well done to all the girls. Thanks to Ellen and Molly for the recap.

Cadet team recap

The Cadets girls went undefeated during league play and hosted St. Columbus in the semi-finals at the IWA. The girls won convincingly and continued into the final, which proved to be a closer match-up than their previous game against Caritas. However they pulled away in the second half to win by a respectable margin. The team was thrilled to enter the All-Irelands, which Mount Temple hosted. The girls won their first two games and narrowly missed out on a spot in the All Ireland Semi Finals after narrowly losing to Kinsale, in the final game of the weekend. The cadets really enjoyed the year and played consistently well. Thanks to Una for the recap.

Senior Girls recap

The senior girls basketball team had a very rewarding and enjoyable season. They went undefeated in league play and handily won their semi-final, which led to a clash with Caritas in the finals. The final was played
on December 14th and the team, along with teachers and supporters made
their way to Oblate Hall Inchicore. The final was rough to say the least
but the mount temple girls stuck together and played their hearts out and were decisive winners. The team also took part in an All-Ireland cup, they travelled to Wexford, to play Presentation College and came out victorious.  The girls however they were not as fortunate in the next round as they were narrowly beaten by Popbal Scoil Inbhear, from Kerry.
In February, the girls played in the All Ireland Regionals in Tubbercurry, Sligo. With some key players unable to make the trip, the girls were able to finish no higher then 3rd in the tournament. Overall, the senior team had a very successful and fun year, they will be sad to see the sixth years go, especially Julia. Thanks to Julia Bauer for the recap.

Senior Boys recap

The guys had a difficult start to the season with some injuries and lack of practice times. This led to close losses to Belvedere College and Channel College early on, but persevered to make it to the quarter finals against Palmerstown with a healthy full squad. The game was close throughout, but unfortunately the boys ended up losing a close game. The team returns some key players next season, but are also losing 2 starters from this year’s team, but look to improve on the quarter final showing from this year. Thanks to all the guys who put in the time and hard work.

New French Assistant

The French Department is delighted to welcome Anouck Commenge , our new Assistante de Francais, to Mount Temple. Anouck comes to us from Toulouse in France and will be with us until the end of the year. Over the last 4 weeks she has been working with small groups of 6th year pupils, helping them to prepare for their oral exam in April, as well as assisting teachers in the classroom. She also helped to prepare the Debating team for their first round debate in the Alliance Francaise competition. We hope she enjoys her year with us in Mount Temple.

2010/2011 French debating season kicks off

Following two consecutive wins in the Joutes Oratoires Interscolaires, organised by the Alliance Francaise, Mount Temple has once again entered a team for the 2010/2011 season. The team members are Sarah Hashish (Capt.), Shelley Carlyle, Esmay Murray and Michael Buggle. The first round took place on Oct.1  and the motion was that “l’annee scolaire est trop longue” Despite a very spirited debate, the team was narrowly defeated by Gonzaga College but has been allowed to progress to the second round because of it’s strong performance. Shelley Carlyle won a Best Speaker award. The second round will take place in November when the team hopes to see an equally devoted group of supporters as last time. Many thanks to our French Assistante Anouck for all her help.

Boys’ Hockey – October 2010

Mount Temple Boys hockey is the strongest it has been in years. With four different age groups being represented by seven teams, we are moving from strength to strength every year. Mount Temple had its best results in years last year as we reached two semi finals and two quarter finals in the boys hockey cups. First year boys won their league and Minor B boys finished runners up. We fully intend to improve on last year in the year to come.
Training are held for each team at least once a week and matches are usually on Wednesdays.

Each team competes in their own league and every age group has a team in the top league. This consists of two pools where the top two play each other in the A semi finals and the third and fourth placed teams play each other in the B semi finals. Also there is a cup for each group where we hope to do well again this year. Boys hockey will only improve with the support of it’s players, coaches and parents. We hope to keep numbers up and keep us challenging at the current high level we are at. Hopefully more success will follow these improvements. Good luck to all teams in the year to come.
