All Ireland Linguistics Olympiad (AILO)
AILO is a contest in which secondary school students develop their own strategies for solving problems, such as deciphering Egyptian hieroglyphics, or decoding numerical spy codes. The problems require logical ability, and mental flexibility. The goal is to develop students’ problem-solving skills at the intersection of computing, linguistics and language. Mount Temple AILO club meets every Monday in Y1 (Ms Gormley’s room) at 1.10 until 1.40. There are new puzzles every week, some based on exotic languages and some focusing on code. All students are welcome to attend, and no special training or talents are required. Ms Gormley, Ms Kuruc and Ms Nic Ruairí are all there to help, advise, and hopefully learn from you!”
See www.adaptcentre.ie/ailo for more info and sample puzzles.
