Language Week 2019

During the week of October 7th to 11th a wide range of activities were organised for students across all year groups. The 1st years had their annual petit déjeuner and Frühstück where they dressed-up and ate croissants, pain au chocolat, Konfitüre und Brot. They also drank chocolat chaud and Orangensaft. This year, the 2nd years celebrated Language Week in style by spending three days in Bundoran Adventure Centre. They attended language classes and tried out several different outdoor activities such as surfing and leaps of faith! The 3rd years attended quizzes in the library. The winners of the French quiz this year were S Bridgeman, E Bodkin, C Smith, M North, G Masih and C Burnby; the winners of the German quiz were K Gibbons, A Staeglin-Tucker, H Mulligan and I Vladimirova. TYs were treated to screenings of French and German films. This year, for senior students, there was a competition based on the theme ‘The Gift of Language’. There were some excellent entries and the overall winners were S Burch, E O’Brien, S Harshman Earley and L Nobbe Smyth. For the second year running, a very successful ‘Language Lunch’ was held in Y1. Students were given the opportunity to drop by and get to sample some foreign foods whilst learning a few words of another language. Amongst the languages celebrated this year were Japanese, Maori, Polish and Russian. Thanks to the beautiful art work of Emma Kelly de Dios, we had an entrant for this year’s FTA conference poster competition. Emma designed a poster based on the theme ‘Le Français est trop bien!’
