Badminton

Badminton takes place in the school gym every Friday from 4.00pm – 5.15pm. Players of all levels are welcome. If you have any queries, please see Mr. Steele.

This year Mount Temple have entered into the Dublin Schools Badminton League for the first time and we have entered:
Under 14 Boys x 2 teams – entered into Division 4
Under 14 Girls x 2 teams – entered into Division 4 and Division 5
Under 16 Boys x 2 teams – entered into Division 3 (possible Leinster finals) and Division 4
Under 16 Girls x 1 team – entered into Division 4
Under 19 Boys x 1 team – entered into Division 4
Under 19 Girls x 1 team – entered into Division 4

As we were unsure of the standard we entered the lowest possible division.

Each school in each section places each other once in a round robin format either home or away, there may also be the opportunity to play a Blitz on the same day at Baldoyle Badminton Centre, the home of badminton in Leinster.
Each match is played of 4 singles and 2 doubles with each player playing two games.
Each game is played up to 30 points with the players swapping ends when one player reaches 15.
Each match is either 6-0, 5-1, 4-2 win or loss or 3-3 and depending on the number of games you win will depend on how many points you get.
At the end of the round robin matches teams then go into quarter finals (where appropriate), semi finals and hopefully the finals.
The Under 16A team have an opportunity to represent Dublin at the Leinster Championships if they win Division 3.

Its been a great turn out so far this year with around 25 attending training sessions every Friday from 4.00pm to 5.15pm.
